The site in numbers
A separate brand — now with tools
Breakbulk — oversized, heavy and non-containerised cargo — is a specialism buyers search for by name, so years ago it got a brand of its own: Best Break Bulk. By 2026 the site had aged: invalid language tags, English page titles in all thirty versions, a one-page form.
We rebuilt it as a chart room. The site now covers only breakbulk, project and dry bulk — tankers and sale & purchase moved to the flagship — and gives professionals tools worth coming back for.

Sea distance between any two ports
Pick any two of 3,807 ports and the site finds the route along the global shipping-lane network, draws it on a map and lists the straits on the way — Shanghai to Klaipeda comes out at 11,448 nautical miles. Reference distances check out to the mile, and a repeated calculation takes about 70 ms.

A broker’s questionnaire, made easy
The old one-page form became a five-step wizard: contact details, cargo, loading port, discharge port, vessel and commercial terms. At the end the visitor sees a recap written the way a broker writes it — and can send it by WhatsApp or email. Every service also has a short form of its own.

Translations that never go stale
Each translation is tied to its English original: when the English is edited, an outdated translation steps aside instead of showing old text.
An admin with a translator role
25 sections and 6 roles, including translators who see only their own languages; enquiries with statuses and CSV export.
Old addresses honoured
2,130 URLs kept, 214 redirected and 180 retired with a proper 410 — zero redirect errors at launch.
One platform, three generations
Best Break Bulk is built on the platform of kievshipping.asia, which in turn grew out of the flagship kievshipping.com: one architecture across the client’s sites, each with its own repository, brand and market.
The whole site works without JavaScript — even the calculators run on the server with the same formulas — and the maps are server-drawn SVG with no mapping libraries. The home page weighs about 28 KB of HTML, 10 KB of CSS and 24 KB of JavaScript, and 283 automated tests plus a crawl of 2,612 pages in every language keep it in check.
